free week

For my PR class, I was reading a blog called PR 101. As I was exploring the blog, I found an interesting post called "Its Fall But The PR Leaves Are Still Green". I really enjoyed this post. It was talks about how "going green" is becoming increasingly popular, and companies that publicize this to their clients are gaining a lot of positive feedback. This is an excellent way for companies to generate stories for their clients to build good, positive relationships. I know that if I know that a company is focusing its efforts on bettering the environment, then I automatically pay more attention to what they have to offer. There are many people like me that feel this is a good way to promote to potential clients.
This is what I want to do in the future, so I find this very interesting!! : )

Dual-Coding Theory

Dual-Coding theory explains how the mind uses images and language for retention. It gives equal weight to verbal and non-verbal processing.
An example of Dual coding theory in TV is the aflac insurance commercial that features the aflac duck. The duck quacks "aflac" during the commercial to people that are oblivious. It really makes you remember the commercial.

Group Work

I have enjoyed the group work we have done in class so far. It has been nice to be able to have class time to work on the project. Our group has done a good job of communicating through email. We also all have eachothers phone numbers so that we can call eachother if we are late for a meeting or forget about a meeting. We found that the most efficient way to get the work done is to divide everything up and then discuss what we have done at the meetings. The best way for people to get the most out of group work is to maintain a positive attitude. Everyone in our group is very nice and we get along well. When people are positive about doing a group project it makes the experience much better.

Presentations

I only got to see one day of presentations. I wish I could have seen both because Im sure there were some great ones! One of the first ones that I saw and remember the most was the one on rock climbing. The video was amazing and I think it is so cool that people have hobbies like that. I would love to be able to do that!

Solid Green Day

"Solid Green: For a Better Future is Clemson’s anti-litter and environmental sustainability campaign. Its mission is to promote a “green” campus by coordinating and sponsoring events that further Clemson’s commitment to the environment and sustainability."

Last week I participated in the Solid Green campaign by cleaning up trash around the fraternity quad. This was a small effort that was done last week by people involved in greek organizations. There were not nearly enough people there helping out! I just wanted to let everyone know that Solid Green Day is WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 24th, 2007. Everyone can partipate by going by Mell Hall to get an assigned location, littler pick-up equipment and a free t-shirt!!

My (fabulous) life in 10 years

In 10 years I will be 31...WOW scary thought! I dream big and have many goals I hope to achieve by that age. Where should I start! I want to live in a city. Preferably Charlotte, or somewhere in the South East. Not necessairly a huge city. This is, after I live elsewhere in the country so that I can experience other places before settling down. I must live somewhere in the South so that I am not too far from Clemson! I also want to live close to my family before I start one of my own. Other than my home, I want to own a house at the beach, in the mountains and in Clemson. I hope to be an extremely successful employee for an event planning company/advertising agency/sales company/PR firm. I still have not decided exactly what I want to do but I'm thinking it will be one of those. I hope to be married to my amazing husband and possibly have children by then, but only if we have been married for quite a while. I hope that by the time I am 31 I will be very well traveled and knowledgable of other parts of the world. I want to have plenty of money so that I can buy all the things I want and still have enough to give away. Most of all I want to be successful, happy and live a very rich and fulfilling life!

Web 2.0

From what I understand, Web 2.0 is the new and improved version of the World Wide Web. The Web 2.0 affects all of us who are ready to enter the work force in many ways. Thanks to the internet, searching for jobs has become much easier. You can post your resume on the internet in minutes, and find employers in your field quickly and easily. The internet makes it easier for people to find jobs, and learn about what types of jobs they might want to persue. It makes life in general easier and quicker. Information is constantly updated and people always know what is going on in the world. We are all connected by the Web. For people that are already in the workforce, new and improved versions of the Web may seem complicated at first, but most people find that it usually makes things more efficient. The video claims that we must rethink everything, because the Web controls a lot of what goes on. Now that the Web has become so huge, we have to rethink how to use it. As hard the concept may be to grasp, the Web has become the center of our universe.
